Description: Join us for coffee with Dr. Frances Aparicio.


An IndianaUniversity alum, Dr. Aparicio is currently on faculty in the Latin Americanand Latino Studies Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr.Aparicio specializes in U.S. Latino/a Literatures & Cultures, Latino & LatinAmerican cultural studies; popular music; language & cultural identity;literary translation; teaching Spanish to heritage language learners. Shehas published Listening to Salsa (1998) and has co-edited Tropicalizations(1997), Musical Migrations (2003) and ridismos Culturales (2005). She has also translated César Miguel Rondón's El Libro de la Salsa (1980), and is working on an article on the cultural politics of salsa dancing in Chicago.
